Colour of The Month
Lavinia’s Russet was formulated in honour of Lavinia Fontana (1552-1614), a mannerist renaissance painter regarded as the first female career artist in Western Europe. Using research from the National Gallery, we were able to construct an ideal amalgamation of her pallet using the earth pigments made in Italy today. Lavinia’s Russet is an ever changing colour, in the cool light of early spring it becomes fresh and clean – a cooling umber, whereas under lamplight it changes into a much redder and warmer brown. Pictured above, you can see a perfect example of the variations you can expect from the Russet; from the creamy, yellowish tones on the left to the more pinkish depth on the right.
