May 2025 News

May 2025

May is a wonderful time to focus on decorating, both internally and externally. With
the arrival of longer days and gentler sunlight, there’s a natural invitation to refresh
and renew the spaces we live in. The energy of spring is at its height, bringing a
sense of lightness, clarity, and possibility. Nature itself becomes a source of
inspiration—flowers are in bloom, colours are more vibrant, and the air carries a
sense of awakening. This makes it an ideal moment to realign our surroundings with
how we want to feel.

At the heart of this process lies the power of colour. Choosing the right palette can
completely transform the atmosphere of a home, influencing not only how a space
looks but also how it feels. This is why a professional colour consultation can be so
valuable. Rather than relying on trends or guesswork, a consultant can help you
uncover the tones that best suit your space, your light, and your personality. They
offer an expert eye to find the perfect balance—enhancing natural features,
supporting your wellbeing, and creating a harmonious flow from room to room.

Artemisia's Pink, Donne D'Arte Collection Colour Swatch

Artemisia’s Pink

Artemisia's Pink from the Donne D'Arte Collection in Eco Emulsion

Artemisia’s Pink is a versatile colour which has found its popularity in the warmest heat of spring. In the glow of the sun, our radiant violet pigment tinges the raw umber into a cooling earth tones that illuminates and refracts light all across the room during these hotter hours of the day. By lamplight or setting sun, we start to see the burnt umber reclaim its hold over the colour, bleeding out burning pinks across the already golden accents cast by the yellow ochre.
Artemisia’s Pink was inspired by the colours and pigments used by Italian Renaissance Painter, Artemisia Gentileschi. In recent efforts to restore the 17th Century Painter’s work, art historians believe Artemisia would have used (on the most part) ochres, oxides, umbers and lead as her predominant palette, from which she would have constructed her figures and the majority of her scenes. Amongst her compositions she was known to add sudden pops of colour from much finer pigments; Vermillion Red for a dress or a bed post, Copper-based Greens in certain background curtains and for her blues she was particularly fond of violet and purplish tones, favouring French Ultramarine, Smalt and of course Indigo.
In her honour, we have constructed her pink through majority Ochres and Umbers and a slight flair of Violet to give it an Artemisia Kick.
