SURFACE PREPARATION
Before application, surfaces must be cleared of loose material, grease and oil.
Surface Type 1:
Unpainted internal walls such as Lime Plaster, Concrete, Cement Render and Powdery Plastered Walls.
For the above surfaces we have developed a unique binder, Francesca’s Eco Fix.
Apply one coat of Eco Fix diluted with 4 parts water to 1 part Eco Fix only if the wall is powdery to the touch.
(If a film appears on the wall, please add more water, up to 8m parts of water to 1 part of Ecofix, the idea is that the Ecofix must be absorbed into the wall)
VERY IMPORTANT:
Over unpainted surfaces there is no need to mist coat the wall, you can paint the Eco Emulsion directly on to the wall, if mist-coating is necessary, please use our Eco Emulsion Paint diluted with up to 50% of water.
Surface Type 2:
Over previously painted walls:
If the paint is flaking, remove as much old paint as possible. If the paint is not flaking, lightly sand the wall to allow the paint to grip.
Remember that the emulsion paint must be applied on a dry surface.
How to Prepare our Eco Emulsion Paint
You will need to dilute our Eco Emulsion paint with water before application. Please follow the dilution chart below.
Colour | 1st Coat | 2nd Coat |
---|---|---|
Light/medium | Dilute with 25% of water | Dilute with 20% of water |
Dark | Dilute with 10% of water | Dilute with 5% of water |
The reason why our paints, including our Eco Emulsion Paint, need to be diluted with water is to preserve the life of the materials to an unlimited period. Once water is added to a product, the stock life is substantially reduced, max 3 months and the water can make the paint contaminated with bacteria which is going to make the product unusable.
We give guidelines of how to dilute the products, but these are only guidelines. The product might need more or less water than what we say, the reason being that they might have been stored for a while or because they might have just been made, so it is important to understand what consistency our paints should be and add the water according to that.
Francesca’s Eco Emulsion Paint should create a continuous flow when pulled from the tub by brush or dip stick. There should not be any blobs of paint falling from the brush or too much running.
APPLICATION
Apply Francesca’s Eco Emulsion Paint by brush, roller or spray gun.
Paint within reach. Don’t outline first and fill the wall after otherwise a line will show. Keep a wet edge.
Leave at least 8 hours before applying the second coat.
FOR MEDIUM / DARK COLOURS WAIT 24 HOURS TO APPLY SECOND COAT.
Do not apply in temperatures below 5C or over 30C.
Avoid retouching the final coat.
COVERAGE
1 litre covers approximately 12 square meters per coat depending on the porosity of surface.
