What is Smart Emulsion?
Francesca’s Smart Emulsion is the toughest of our emulsions, the finish dries matt but is completely cleanable, scrubbable and washable.
Smart Emulsion is suitable for use on interior walls and woodwork and can be applied on walls and wood, making it perfect if you want to use a hardwearing finish throughout a space. It can be touched up, scrubbed and with such a low VOC count, it makes for an ideal choice for children’s bedrooms and kitchens or in any space with lots of traffic.
Our Smart Emulsion is not suitable for bathrooms or in areas of continuous high humidity.

Orders below 50 litres, which are ordered before noon, will be sent out the same day for next day delivery using FedEx Priority Service. For larger orders please allow a little extra time.

Surface Preparation
All surfaces should be sound, clean, dry and free of grease.
Seal absorbent surfaces with a solution of up to 1part water to 4 parts Francesca’s Smart Emulsion.
Prime bare timber and metal surface with appropriate primer.
Application
Francesca’s Smart Emulsion can be applied by brush, roller and spray gun.
When using roller, use a medium pile synthetic type.
Apply liberally and evenly, avoid overspreading.
Smart Emulsion should be touch dry after about 1-2 hours, apply the second coat after 4 hours.
Coverage
1 litre will cover approximately 6 square metres over 2 coats (depending on porosity of surface).
Cleaning
Remove as much emulsion paint as possible from application equipment before washing.
Wash tools immediately after use in warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly.
Do not empty emulsion into drains or watercourses.
General Information
Colour variation can occur between batches due to the natural pigments used, therefore, it is recommended that all Francesca’s Smart Emulsion be purchased at the same time. Keep the lid tightly on. Keep out of reach of children. Do not swallow and avoid eye contact. If accidental contact occurs, rinse eyes with copious amounts of water.

Smart Emulsion FAQs
What does washable paint mean? And what is the difference between washable and wipeable paint?
When a paint is washable or scrubbable it means you do not have to worry about the surface of the paint, you can clean with the force you feel is necessary to remove whatever you have on your wall. Wipeable, in contrast, may sound similarly cleanable but rather suggests that the paint can be removed by certain cleaning processes and so cleaning should be limited to a gentle wipe with a slightly damp cloth. There are other paints which are neither washable or wipeable, these paints are harmed even by the most delicate of cleaning.
What are the benefits of using smart emulsion paint compared to traditional emulsion paints?
Francesca’s Smart Emulsion is a washable paint, it is tough, long lasting and is resistant to mould and moisture. Regular emulsion paints, on the other hand, are a lot more delicate, and can be stained or scuffed a lot easier. Smart Emulsion is perfect for areas where you are expecting a high level of traffic, or where mess is inevitable.
How durable is smart emulsion paint?
Smart Emulsion is by far the most durable option when looking for a matt finish. Francesca’s Smart Emulsion currently meets the highest international standard for durability, the ISO 11998 – Class 1 scrub rating. To warrant such a merit, a paint must not lose any more than 5 micrometres of film after 200 scrubs.
What are the recommended maintenance tips for surfaces painted with smart emulsion paint?
Smart Emulsion is a very easily maintained paint which can really tolerate a lot. Because it is so durable, you can simply wash it whenever you wish to restore it to its original beauty.
