July 2023 News

Jul 2023

The word “July” is derived from the Latin word “Julius,” which was the name of the month in the ancient Roman calendar. It was named after Julius Caesar, the famous Roman general and statesman, who was born on July 12th.

The Roman calendar originally had ten months, and July was originally the fifth month of the year. However, when the calendar was later reformed and January and February were added, July became the seventh month, the first full month of summer.

Summer is a wonderful season associated with warmth, vibrant colours, and an abundance of nature’s bounty. Harvesting is a significant part of summer, especially for those who have gardens or farms. It is the time when crops are gathered, and the hard work of nurturing plants throughout the spring pays off.

As well as gardening, summer is a time for people to enjoy outdoor festivities. It is a time of celebration and gratitude for the abundance of nature’s gifts. Imagine hosting memorable garden parties adorned with twinkling lights, vibrant lanterns, and cosy seating areas that invite laughter and conversation.

From sprucing up your garden with colourful blooms and charming landscaping, to setting up the perfect al fresco dining area for entertaining friends and family, summer is the perfect time to transform your outdoor space into a summer sanctuary.

TRANSFORMING YOUR SPACE THIS SUMMER

Decorating in summer offers a unique opportunity to bring a bright and refreshing vibe to your space. Opt for light and pastel colours that evoke a sense of freshness and tranquillity; whites, soft blues, greens and yellows are great choices for summer decor.

Embrace the beauty of nature by incorporating earth elements into your decor. Use fresh flowers, potted plants, seashells, driftwood, or even a bowl of vibrant fruits as decorative accents.

Make the most of the warm weather by sprucing up your outdoor areas. Add comfortable seating, vibrant cushions, string lights, and potted grasses to create a cosy and inviting outdoor oasis. Paint your garden walls or courtyard, this is the time to do it.

Get creative and try some do-it-yourself projects for summer decor. Paint old furniture with bright and vibrant colours, create a beach-themed centrepiece, or make your own summer-inspired wall art.

Remember, the key to summer decorating is to create a light, fresh, and inviting atmosphere that reflects the season’s vibrant energy. Have fun with your decor and let your creativity shine like the sun!

COLOUR OF THE MONTH

The Colour of the Month is ‘Peace White’ from the Off White Collection. It was made at the beginning of the Iraq War, a long time ago now. I created it to bring peace and calm in such a sad time in our lives. It is made entirely with Raw Umber.

It is a smart, elegant off white perfect to take the edge off to brilliant white but to keep it light and spacey. It pairs beautifully with pretty much every other colour and it is suitable in any room of the house from a kitchen, to a drawing room. A completely timeless colour that you will never tire of.

This house has been designed by Roby Baldan Interiors. Roby is a big fan of Peace White and often has specified it in her projects, this was one of them.

It looks wonderful as a background to black and white pictures and art in general.

Keep well, enjoy the sun and have a good Summer,

Francesca
